“By January 2011, we’d been trying for a baby for 1.5 years; I was willing to try anything. We don’t have $$$ to spend on RE treatment, and after reading a LOT of reviews about maca, I figured “why not – can’t hurt”. I started maca roughly around my ovulation date (just because that’s when I received the pills in the mail), and took 2 of the 800mg. pills every morning. Four weeks later, I got a positive pregnancy test – and confirmed it with a blood test.
Note: I did have blood tests and an ultrasound both come back “normal” in the two weeks before my positive preg test. I don’t have endometrius or thyroid problems. I might have PCOS (based on symptoms), but haven’t been diagnosed.
So: did maca get me pregnant? I’m not sure, but since this was the ONLY thing I’d done differently (and I’d been conscientiously charting my cycle, my temperature, etc), I’m willing to bet it helped.
I plan to continue using maca through the end of the 1st trimester – possibly a bit longer. And I’ll come back and update this in 9 months.
